Getting your kitchen set up

PassLog lives in a free Google Firebase account that belongs to you, so your records are always yours. Creating it takes about 10 minutes. We do the rest.

You'll need

Part 1: Create your account

Do this once. Use the business's Google account, not a member of staff's personal one, so the records stay with the business if people move on.

  1. Sign in to Firebase

Go to console.firebase.google.com and sign in with the business Google account. No Google account yet? Make one free at accounts.google.com/signup first.

  2. Create a project

Click Create a project (or Get started). Name it after your kitchen, for example passlog-the-anchor. Accept the terms and continue.

  3. Turn off Google Analytics

When asked about Google Analytics, switch it off. PassLog doesn't need it. Then click Create project and wait a few seconds.

You'll be on the free plan. You don't need to add a card. If your kitchen ever needed the paid plan, we'd tell you first.

  4. Add us so we can set it up
    • Click the ⚙ gear icon at the top left, then Users and permissions.
    • Click Add member.
    • Enter
    • Choose the role Editor, then Add member.
  5. Let us know

Email hello@passlog.co.uk with your project name. If you haven't sent your setup form yet, send that too. We'll have you set up within 2 working days and email you your link.

Part 2: Once you're set up

  1. Remove our access

When we've emailed to say everything's working, go back to ⚙ → Users and permissions, click the three dots next to our email and choose Remove member. Your records are then only yours. If you take a support plan, we'll ask you to add us again only when needed.

  2. Put it on your kitchen phones and tablets

Open your PassLog link on each device, then add it to the home screen so it opens like an app:

    iPhone or iPad

Open the link in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.

    Android

Open the link in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
  3. Keep a paper backup

Keep a few blank paper sheets in the kitchen for any time a device or the Wi-Fi is down, and export your records once a month. It's good practice, and it's in our terms.
